DJ JJ S

JJ was born in Seattle and raised along the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth. He began taking piano lessons at age 7. He discovered his passion for music after picking up the guitar at age 9. J.J. was songwriting and performing locally in Duluth from an early age. JJ loved the challenge of learning new instruments such as saxophone, oboe, bassoon, bass guitar, and drums. JJ received a degree in Jazz Studies and a degree in Philosophy from The School of Music at Loyola University in New Orleans. He studied Jazz, Classical music, and was also a member in the University chorus.

At age 21, J.J. suffered a severe spinal cord injury in an accident. While recovering from this injury he devoted a year to learning to produce electronic beats, recording and mixing music, and DJing. He then was able to begin his professional performing career where he has DJed numerous gigs, performed as a musician at many shows, and also worked as a guitarist on cruise ships. When not DJing, JJ gives guitar and piano lessons. He also loves drones and landscape photography.

Our original DJ through Instant Request had an emergency and was unable to come to our wedding. IR was quick to find a replacement and managed the whole situation well. We are paired with DJ JJ who was amazing! He kept people on the dance floor all night long. Many people told us it was the most fun they’ve had at a wedding. He listened to our requests and also took requests throughout the night. Would recommend!

Rachel & Stephan – Mill Event Center

We booked this group for our wedding reception and it we couldn't have found better, they paired us with Ian and he was PHENOMENAL! Our wedding dance went from 8pm to midnight and the crowd never stopped dancing - everyone had a blast and at the end of the night we had 38 people still on the dance floor cheering for another song. We had a blast that night and they made our wedding day so memorable! Ian also played the music for our ceremony and social hour and he was ON IT. Our expectations were exceeded!

We were assigned JJ the DJ and he was great! For having a wedding crowd that was on the younger side we wanted someone that understood what music appeals to that crowd and he nailed it! We had a day of adjustment and JJ was very accommodating. We had also hired him for our ceremony which made things go very smooth. We also liked the online portal to select music and inform the DJ of how the day is going to go. Would highly recommend them!

JJ was amazing for both our ceremony and reception. He really took the time to make our experience great, whether it was making sure names were right, ensuring microphones were ready, or keeping people out on the dance floor. Even little things like song transitions during the ceremony were awesome. Everyone kept telling us how awesome our DJ was, plus he was a super great guy to work with! We’d book him again in a heartbeat.

Instant Request was responsive and accommodating from day one. Matt and Mitch were always very prompt in answering my many questions, and the on-line planner was very easy to use. I was a little nervous about not meeting our DJ in person prior to the wedding, but in retrospect it really would have been unnecessary. DJ JJ was excellent. He went through our entire on-line planner with us in detail weeks before the wedding and was able to accommodate us with our last minute adjustments days prior to the wedding. He was professional and played songs that our guests really enjoyed. We did not have to think of anything the night of our wedding. Our DJ did everything!

Abbey & Nick – Willow Brooke Farm, Weddings + Events Vineyard

We had a wonderful wedding on October 8th and we thought JJ did a great job! Our dance floor was literally packed the entire night, in conversations with family and friends afterwards, people have said 'I kept wanting to take a dancing break, but he played good song after good song I couldn't leave' 'great dance music, read the crowd well!' It really was a great party all night and I know a friend of mine getting married next year wanted his business card specifically. We did have a few small hiccups, but JJ was able to make corrections and make it a great experience.... We were nervous not going with a Black tie DJ, but we felt like overall JJ left our guests with a great experience and met our expectations of 'wedding dance party' to a T.
